The coast of Scarlino is about 11km long and located between the territories of Follonica and Punta Ala (Castiglione della Pescaia). In this area of the Maremma, we find some of the most famous beaches on the Southern Tuscan coast and also some of the most beautiful.

cala violina (8)

The beach

Probably the most famous beach in this area and considered the most beautiful in the Tuscan Maremma. It is located more or less halfway between Follonica and Punta Ala within the Bandite Nature Reserve. The beach is not very easy to reach as it is located within a protected area. You can get there from the north through a beautiful (and tiring) path by bicycle or from the south after traveling down a dirt road and parking your car in a parking lot with limited spaces (from there you need to walk about 20 minutes through the pine forest). The long walk is amply repaid by what you encounter once you arrive – Soft sand and crystal clear uncontaminated water. The name of the beach stems from the sound the sand emits when you walk on it. There are no establishments, the beach is totally free, but there is a bar on site where you can eat.

How to get to cala violina

Cala Violina can be reached by taking the provincial road 158 from Grosseto in the direction of Follonica. Take the exit for Pian d’Alma and after about 1km of dirt road, you will arrive at a large parking lot (paid and with a limited number of spaces). Once you leave the car, continue on foot (or by bike) along a path of about 1km through the woods. After about 20-30 minutes of walking, you’ll reach the beach.

Located in the northernmost area of the Scarlinese coast, this sandy beach is shallow and a mix of free and paid establishments. Before arriving at the beach, there is a beautiful pine forest. The beach is very convenient to reach and adjacent to the SP 158.

Progetto senza titolo

The Spiaggia delle Tartarughe is nothing more than a small stretch of the Puntone. The name derives from an exceptional nesting of sea turtles, which took place here in October 2013. The Municipality of Scarlino together with Legambiente have since made this area a protected area, so as to monitor the activity of these tortoises, which had never before nested on the Tuscan coast.

cala martina

They are the most important beaches located on the southern side of the Scarlino area. Cala Felice is very small but at the same time also very famous and exclusive thanks to the restaurant and nightclub of the same name. Cala Martina is even further south and is a free beach that can only be reached on foot or by bicycle.
